You don’t have to explain everything — I get the in-between.

Hi, I’m Abby Evilsizor Cabrera (she/her), LCSW, PMH-C — a therapist, full-spectrum doula, and someone who deeply believes that your cultural identity, lived experiences, and inner wisdom belong at the center of your healing.

I specialize in working with Latinx and bicultural moms, first-time anxious parents, and anyone navigating the complex emotional terrain of pregnancy and postpartum. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to manage the changes that come with parenthood, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

My approach blends trauma-informed care with EMDR, psychoeducation, and culturally-affirming support rooted in my training in Chicano/a/x Affirmative Therapy. Sessions with me aren’t one-size-fits-all — I bring a flexible, compassionate style and create space for you to show up as your full self, without judgment.

Through my clinical experience and full-spectrum doula training, I’ve had the honor of supporting many individuals through the deeply personal experiences of pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting. I understand how layered and nuanced this journey can be, especially when culture, identity, and generational stories are part of the picture. My work is grounded in the belief that healing is not just personal — it’s cultural, ancestral, and collective.

I hold space for it all — the grief, the messiness, the tenderness, and the joy. We talk about taboo topics. We honor both the work it takes to grow and the rest you need to sustain that growth. I want every client I work with to know they can be complex, multifaceted, and fully human — and still be worthy of care and healing. You don’t have to choose between being strong and being soft.

When I’m not in session and have some free time, I’m likely out on a walk, exploring a new restaurant or café, walking my dogs, rewatching Gilmore Girls for the millionth time, sipping a glass of wine, hanging in my hammock, or planning my next trip.

The Process

Initial Consultation

You can email me or send me a request through the Alma consultation request page. This is 15 minutes long and free. I can answer any questions you may have during this time and we can talk logistics such as scheduling to make sure we are a good fit.

Schedule Your First Session

I will send you an email with options for a time slot that will be reserved for you, unless we have discussed something different. This spot will be yours so long as therapy is being done on a regular basis.

Insurance Verification

Pretty immediately following the consultation I will send you a form to complete to do your insurance verification if we choose to work together. You and I will both receive an email stating a confirmation that we can or cannot work together along with your co-pay amount.

Meet Weekly or Bi-Weekly

If we have set a time slot for you to have sessions on a regular basis, it is yours. I assume that you will show up at that time every week or every other week. You will get regular reminders to help you keep this schedule.

Complete Intake Forms

Should you be okay with your co-pay amount and still choose to pursue therapy with me, I will send you the rest of the intake forms. These need to be completed in order to schedule your first session or confirm it if we’ve tentatively scheduled you into a time slot (must be complete 24 hours before your first session).

Assess When You Reach Goals & Discharge

When you begin hitting your goals or for some other reason we determine you to be reaching a point where your therapy journey with me is coming to an end, we will start the discharge process and then come up with a date for our last session together.
