Being a bicultural mom is beautiful and meaningful, but it can also feel like you’re balancing entire worlds on your shoulders. Maybe you’re raising a child between languages. Maybe traditions don’t always match your or your partner’s family’s expectations. Maybe you feel misunderstood, stretched thin, or like you’re constantly translating your life — literally and emotionally.

And sometimes… you’re just tired.

  • Bicultural moms often carry invisible emotional labor. You’re holding traditions, language, family expectations, and the weight of “I don’t want my children to go through what I did” while also wondering how you can help them feel connected to the same special traditions and special aspects of the culture you’re not always surrounded by.

    Therapy can help you:

    • Parent from confidence instead of fear or pressure

    • Reduce the guilt and overwhelm that can take over

  • Absolutely! You are welcome to speak in one language the entirety of a session, the other language the next session or both within the same hour!

  • Not at all! While we may not focus on your identity as a bicultural person, there may be times where that piece of you shows up in your sessions and this is a space where that identity is fully embraced, honored and understood.

  • No! Cutting off contact with a parent that you have conflicting opinions with around pregnancy & parenting is not the only answer. Latinx cultures are community based and that being my only or primary suggestion to you would not be culturally appropriate. We will work together on a variety of other topics so that you come to your own conclusion of how you’d like to move forward in your relationships and how to do that in the most healthy way for all people involved.
